Megane Active Air Flap Fault
Summary of the thread
The 2018 Renault Megane diesel is experiencing an active air flap fault, leading to engine overheating and a check engine light. Diagnostics indicate a defective electromechanism, which is crucial for thermal management. Possible causes include issues with the flap motor or a sensor providing incorrect information to the ECU. Suggested solutions involve inspecting the wiring harness and connections for corrosion or damage, with a recommendation to have the vehicle checked at a workshop. The issue was confirmed to be a faulty electromechanism, and repairs were completed.

Could you elaborate on which specific connections I should inspect? I want to cover all possibilities before concluding the flap motor is faulty.

It's tricky to get specific without the car in front of me, but focus on the connector directly at the flap motor. Check for corrosion or loose pins. Also, trace the wiring back as far as you can easily, looking for any chafing or damage. Honestly, though, given the overheating, a defective motor is likely. I would recommend getting it checked at a workshop.

The shop confirmed a faulty active air flap electromechanism. The repair, including parts and labor, was 590€.

I've heard about similar active air flap problems on newer Meganes. It's about thermal management and getting the engine up to temp quickly. Usually, it's either the flap motor or a sensor giving the ECU bad info. Have you checked the wiring harness and connections to the flap motor?
