Megane Alternator Failure

My 2007 Renault Megane with a gasoline engine is giving me headaches. Getting reduced engine power, a warning light, and it struggles to start. Plus, the lights are flickering. Error memory says something about the generator. Could it really be the alternator at only 108258 km?

Summary of the thread

The 2007 Renault Megane is experiencing reduced engine power, a warning light, starting difficulties, and flickering lights. The error memory indicates a problem with the generator, suggesting a potential alternator failure. Despite checking battery connections, the symptoms and error codes point towards the alternator as the likely cause. The solution involves taking the car to a workshop, where it was confirmed that the alternator needed replacement.

Sounds familiar! Had similar issues with my old Opel Astra. Weak lights, starting trouble... Did you check the battery connections? Maybe they're loose or corroded?

Battery connections seem fine, already checked them. But could a bad battery cause these symptoms even with a supposedly good alternator?

Well, a bad battery can cause weird electrical issues, but with those error codes pointing to the generator, it's likely the alternator failing. I’d say take it to a workshop to be sure.

Thanks for the input! Took it to the shop, and you were right – alternator was toast. Cost me 960€ for replacement. Appreciate the help!
