Megane automatic transmission issue

Hi, I have a 2021 Renault Megane hybrid with about 98k km. Recently, the automatic transmission has been acting weird. It's shifting strangely, the transmission light is on, and sometimes it feels like it's stuck in emergency mode. Any ideas?

Hey there! Sounds frustrating. I had a similar issue with my 2018 Volvo V60. The symptoms were almost identical. In my case, it turned out to be undervoltage messing with the transmission control unit. It's like trying to run a computer on a dying battery – things get glitchy. Have you checked your car battery recently? A weak battery can cause all sorts of electrical gremlins.

Interesting. I haven't checked the battery specifically. How would a weak battery affect the transmission like that?

Think of your car's computer system as a network of interconnected devices. The transmission relies on precise signals to shift gears. If the voltage is unstable, those signals can get garbled, causing the transmission to behave erratically. With my Volvo the error code pointed towards the transmission itself, but the workshop guys found the real culprit quickly. I'd recommend getting your battery tested and the error codes read by a professional.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to the shop, and you were right – it was related to undervoltage! They replaced the hydraulic fluid in the automatic transmission, and the total came to 240€. Everything seems to be working fine now.
