Megane cold start issue
Summary of the thread
A 2004 Renault Megane diesel is experiencing poor engine performance during cold starts, with increased fuel consumption and an error code related to the auxiliary heater circuit. The issue is suspected to be linked to the electric auxiliary heater, specifically the PTC heater, a common failure point in these vehicles. A similar case was resolved by replacing the faulty PTC heater, which improved the engine's cold start performance. It is recommended to have the PTC heater checked and possibly replaced by a professional to address the problem.

Yes, I used an OBD2 scanner and I'm getting a fault related to the auxiliary heater circuit. Could you elaborate on what you did to resolve the issue with your Megane? Did the error code lead you directly to the PTC heater, or did you perform additional troubleshooting steps?

Yep, the code pointed straight to the PTC heater. I'd advise getting it checked out by a professional. A faulty heating element in the electrical auxiliary heater can cause a lot of problems. I got mine replaced, and it sorted everything out. Probably best to get a quote from a workshop first, as it wasn't exactly cheap.

Thanks for the information. Seems like a workshop visit is unavoidable. I'll have the PTC heater checked ASAP. I'm anticipating a repair bill of approximately 350€, so it's good to have an idea of what to expect. I appreciate your help!

Sounds familiar. I've got a Megane as well, and I had similar issues last winter. Rough starts. Check your PTC heater; it's a common failure point on these. When you say 'error memory', do you mean you used an OBD2 scanner to check the diagnostic trouble codes?
