Megane exhaust temperature sensor issue
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Renault Megane is experiencing issues with the check engine light on, reduced performance, and increased fuel consumption. The suspected cause is a malfunctioning exhaust temperature sensor, potentially due to a leak affecting sensor readings. A similar case involved a crack in the exhaust manifold near the sensor, which was resolved by repairing the leak. The suggested solution is to have the vehicle inspected for leaks and sensor issues to restore proper function.

Yeah, fuel consumption has definitely taken a hit. Like, noticeably worse. So, what was the fix on your Volvo? Did they find a leak or was it just a dead sensor?

They smoked out a tiny crack in the exhaust manifold near the sensor. Sensor was probably still okay-ish, but the leak was messing with the readings. Workshop visit, unfortunately, but it sorted the issue out.

Right, a leak... that makes sense. Explains the fluctuating temperatures. Guess I'll bite the bullet and get it checked out properly. Thanks for the insight! It's probably gonna cost me around 265€, but it's better than driving a gas guzzler with a check engine light.

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms on my old Volvo, though it was a diesel. Check engine light, sluggish performance. Turned out to be a faulty sensor as well. Was your fuel consumption also affected?
