Megane Gear Shift Indicator Fault

I've got a 2016 Renault Megane gasoline with 245586 km on the clock. The gear shift indicator is playing up. I can't engage the gears properly, the automatic transmission shifts badly, and there are grinding noises. The gear selection display in the speedometer is dead, and there's an error code related to the control unit. I suspect the control unit is defective. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Sounds rough! I had a somewhat similar issue with my old Peugeot 308. The gear selector was acting crazy, showing the wrong gear or nothing at all. Turns out it was a sensor problem. Could be worth checking the sensors connected to your gear selector before you go replacing the whole control unit.

Thanks for the tip! Which sensor was it on your Peugeot? And how did you diagnose it?

Honestly, I can't remember exactly which sensor it was. It was a while ago, and I'm no expert. I took it to a workshop. They plugged it into their diagnostic computer, and it pinpointed the faulty sensor pretty quickly. Best to get it properly diagnosed. I hope it's not going to be 1000€ for you. Good luck!

Appreciate the advice! I took it to a trusted mechanic, and after a diagnostic check, it confirmed that the control unit was faulty, as suspected. I have replaced it, and everything is running smoothly again now. Thanks again!
