Megane transmission control unit failure
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Renault Megane Electric is experiencing transmission issues, including inability to shift with paddle shifters, gearbox slippage, grinding noises, and emergency mode activation, with an error code indicating a transmission control unit (TCU) failure. The problem is likely due to a defective TCU, as confirmed by another owner with similar symptoms. The recommended solution is to replace the TCU, which typically costs around 1000€.

Thank you for your response. I've had the error codes read; it points directly to the transmission control unit. Fluid levels are within spec. Are you confirming your issue was ultimately the control module?

Yep, control module was the culprit. After a lot of head-scratching, that's what the workshop determined. Honestly, with those symptoms and the error code pointing that way, I wouldn't waste time looking elsewhere. Book it in; a new or refurbished TCU is probably what you need. Cost me around 1000€ to get sorted.

Understood. I appreciate the confirmation. The workshop has quoted a similar price for the repair. It seems a new control unit is the only option. Thank you for sharing your experience.

MEGANE

Whoa, that sounds familiar! I have a Megane too, and I had similar issues a while back. My paddles were dead, and the shifting felt like stirring soup with a stick. The grinding noise is definitely not a good sign. Have you checked the usual suspects, like fluid levels, or had the error codes read? It could be a faulty sensor, but those symptoms sound suspiciously like a control module problem.
