Menlo Height Control Failure, Causes and Fixes
Summary of the thread
The conversation centers around a 2023 Chevy Menlo experiencing height control system malfunctions, including warning lights, uneven ride height, and rough suspension. The issue is suspected to be related to the height sensor or its connection, as indicated by error code P1734. A similar problem in a Chevy Bolt was resolved by repairing a faulty control rod connection to the load sensor, suggesting a straightforward fix. It is advised to also check the wiring harness for wear and ensure the control module is reset after repairs to restore proper suspension function.

Thanks for the detailed response. The issue started about 2 weeks ago. The height sensor malfunction gets worse after the car sits overnight, it takes about 15 minutes of driving for the ride height to somewhat normalize. The control module shows error code P1734 (height control system fault). No unusual noises from the suspension, but the leveling sensor seems to be struggling to maintain consistent readings. Just had my 10,000 KM service last month, and everything was fine then. When checking underneath, noticed the control rod connection looks a bit worn where it meets the height sensor. Your experience with the similar repair gives me hope it's just the connection rather than the entire control module needing replacement.

Yeah, that P1734 code on your Menlo points to the same height sensor connection issue I had with my Bolt. The worn control rod you spotted is likely the culprit, these parts tend to wear faster than expected in the air suspension system. The 15-minute normalization period matches my experience too. The control module gets confused by the inconsistent height sensor readings, leading to those uneven ride heights and misaligned headlights you mentioned. Since your issue developed after the 10,000 KM service, check if any work was done near the automotive suspension components. Sometimes routine maintenance can accidentally disturb the height adjustment sensors. Quick tip from my repair: have them check the wiring harness to the height sensor while they're fixing the control rod. Mine had some minor insulation wear that could've caused problems later. The entire fix took about 2 hours at the shop. Make sure they clear the error codes after the repair. The control module sometimes needs a reset to properly calibrate the new height sensor readings.

Thanks for sharing those details about your similar repair experience. Really helpful to know about checking the wiring harness too, I'll definitely have them look at that when fixing the control rod. Going to book it in next week for repair. Your description of the 2-hour job and the need to check both the height sensor connection and wiring gives me a good baseline for what to expect. Nice to know I likely won't need the entire leveling system replaced. Will make sure they reset everything after the repair to get the automotive suspension properly calibrated. I'm guessing once the load sensor gets accurate readings again, the whole height control system should work correctly. Makes total sense about the connection wearing out, probably explains why it started acting up right after the service interval. I'll update the thread once it's fixed in case anyone else runs into similar suspension issues with their Menlo.

Had a similar issue on my 2021 Chevy Bolt. The leveling sensor was giving false readings, causing the suspension system to act erratically. The control module kept throwing error codes, just like yours. Took it to the workshop where they found a faulty control rod connection to the load sensor. Total repair was 110 Euro, pretty straightforward fix once diagnosed. The air suspension and height control went back to normal after replacement. Got some experience with electric vehicle suspension systems, and this sounds exactly like what I dealt with. The symptoms match up, uneven ride height and wonky headlight aim are classic signs of a leveling sensor problem. Could you share: How long has this been happening? Any unusual noises from the suspension? Does the height vary more after the car sits overnight? What error codes are you seeing? This info would help confirm if you're dealing with the same control rod issue I had. The 2023 Menlo uses a similar suspension setup to the Bolt, so the fix might be comparable.
