Mercedes A Klasse Diesel Engine Trouble

My Mercedes A Klasse, build year 2007, diesel engine, is acting up. The check engine light is on, it feels underpowered, and the fuel consumption is terrible. With 130675 km, could this be a crankshaft sensor issue? I saw a video about a similar problem. Is this related to the timing belt? I hope it's not a costly fix.

A crankshaft to camshaft reference value error suggests a mismatch between the crankshaft and camshaft position sensor signals. This can lead to the issues you described: reduced power, poor engine response, and increased fuel consumption. A faulty crankshaft sensor is a likely cause. When was the timing belt last inspected? A worn or poorly installed timing belt can also disrupt crankshaft and camshaft synchronization. Do you know the specific error code?

The timing belt was changed about 40000 km ago. If the sensor is bad, would that cause misfires? The error code is P0335. Where is the crankshaft sensor located?

Yes, a faulty crankshaft sensor can cause misfire-like symptoms because it's critical for ignition and fuel injection timing. The P0335 code confirms a crankshaft position sensor problem. Considering the code and symptoms, the sensor is likely the issue. I can't give you the exact location, but I suggest a qualified mechanic for diagnosis and repair. A full diagnosis is important. The bill might be around 340€.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a local shop, and you were right. The crankshaft sensor was the problem. It's replaced, and the car runs perfectly again. It cost 340€, just as you estimated. I appreciate the help!
