Mercedes A Klasse heavy steering issue

Evening. My 2023 Mercedes A Klasse diesel is acting up. It has about 154674 km on the clock. The steering's getting heavy, feels like the power steering is cutting out intermittently, plus there's a nasty vibration coming through the wheel. It feels a bit like driving a tractor sometimes. I ran a scan and it's flagging a defective steering angle sensor. I suspect it's a coding issue with the angle sensor itself, possibly causing issues with the electronic stability program. Has anyone else wrestled with this? I'm thinking it could be alignment problems. What am I looking at in terms of potential issues and repair costs?

I had something similar with my A Klasse. The steering was heavy, and it felt like the power assist was playing hide-and-seek. Did you notice any warning lights on the dash when this started happening?

No warning lights initially, just the heavy steering and vibrations. The light only came on after I ran the diagnostic scan and cleared the code. Does your experience point to just needing a recalibration of the angle sensor?

Sounds very familiar. Mine was indeed the angle sensor messing with the electronic stability. You could try a recalibration, but honestly, I’d get it checked professionally. Like a dodgy thermostat messing with the whole engine, it can have ripple effects.

That's the nudge I needed. I booked it into the shop. It turns out the steering angle sensor was indeed faulty, and the coding was all messed up. They replaced it and recalibrated everything. Total cost: 195€. It drives like a dream again. Thanks for the help!
