Mercedes A Klasse Hybrid Engine Problems

My Mercedes A Klasse 2022 Hybrid is acting possessed The engine light is on, it's running rough, and there's a crazy exhaust smell I think I even spotted a tiny exhaust leak Could this be the oxygen sensor I've read about EGR valve problems too, or even the catalytic converter I just want my car to be healthy again

Summary of the thread

A Mercedes A Klasse 2022 Hybrid is experiencing engine problems, including an engine light, rough running, and a strong exhaust smell, possibly due to an exhaust leak. Potential causes include a faulty oxygen sensor, EGR valve issues, or catalytic converter problems. The oxygen sensor is crucial for maintaining the correct air/fuel mixture, and a malfunction can lead to poor combustion and rough running. It is recommended to have the vehicle inspected by a professional to diagnose and resolve the issues, as confirmed by a subsequent repair that identified a faulty lambda sensor and an exhaust leak.

Sounds rough I had a similar issue with my old Peugeot a while back Engine light, rough running... turned out to be a faulty oxygen sensor Symptoms are like a malfunctioning heart, the car is not breathing well Have you checked for any obvious cracks or damage to the exhaust system itself An exhaust leak could definitely cause a strong smell and rough running, plus it can mess with the sensor readings

You mentioned checking for cracks Is there a specific area of the exhaust system that's more prone to leaks And how exactly does a bad oxygen sensor cause all these problems I'm trying to understand the chain of events here Is it like one domino falling after another

Well, on my Peugeot the leak was near the catalytic converter, seems like a common spot for rust As for the oxygen sensor, it's key for the engine to calculate the correct air/fuel mixture If it's faulty, the engine gets wrong info, leading to poor combustion, rough running, and even catalytic converter damage in the long run If you have exhaust leak, this causes the oxygen sensor to provide incorrect information Honestly, with those symptoms, especially the leak, I'd take it to a workshop They can properly diagnose it and avoid further damage

You're a lifesaver Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge I took it to the shop, and you were right – it was indeed the lambda sensor The exhaust leak was a separate issue, but they fixed that too Total cost was 375€ At least my car is breathing easy again
