Mercedes A Klasse Hybrid Turbo Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Mercedes A Klasse hybrid is experiencing significant turbo lag, stalling at idle, increased fuel consumption, and a whistling sound during acceleration, with the check engine light on. The suspected cause is a faulty wastegate valve within the turbocharger's boost control system. A similar issue was resolved by replacing the wastegate, and it is recommended to consult a qualified technician for a definitive diagnosis and repair.

So, the wastegate then. Was it a simple fix, or did you have to replace the entire turbocharger unit? And did you notice if the boost pressure was erratic before it completely failed? I am trying to avoid taking it to the workshop, if possible.

In my case, the wastegate required replacement. I would recommend a diagnostic check to definitively confirm the fault. Given the complexity of the boost control system within modern engines, and considering your experience, it may be prudent to consult a qualified technician. The cost for the repair totalled 860€.

Appreciate the input. Seems like I'm heading down the same path. Confirmed the wastegate is faulty after further inspection. Bit beyond my home garage capabilities, so booked it in at the shop. Thanks again for confirming my suspicions.

I operate a similar A Klasse. I experienced comparable symptoms some time ago, namely the reduced engine power, the hissing sound during acceleration and the check engine light being illuminated. The origin of the issue proved to be a defect within the wastegate mechanism. The functionality of the wastegate is integral to the correct operation of the turbocharger.
