Mercedes A Klasse Hybrid windshield wiper issue
Summary of the thread
The 2019 Mercedes A Klasse hybrid had a windshield wiper issue, with an error indicating a problem in the wiper circuit. Possible causes included a bad connection, faulty plug, damaged cable, or issues within the steering column involving the cruise control, turn signal stalk, or rain sensor. Initial troubleshooting suggested checking the wiper motor fuse and connections. Ultimately, the problem was identified as a faulty connection in the steering column switch, which was resolved at a workshop for under 100€.

Thanks for the quick reply! I'll check the fuse first thing in the morning. As for the error code, I don't have it written down at the moment. If the fuse is okay, where exactly should I be looking for the connection to the wiper motor? Is it easy to access, or do I need to take half the car apart?

Checking the fuse is a good start. The wiper motor is usually located under the hood, near the base of the windshield on either the driver or passenger side, depending on the car's configuration. You might have to remove a plastic cover to get to it. It's usually held on with clips. If you are not comfortable doing that, I recommend going to a workshop before you break something. Given that you already have an error code stored, it's likely more than just a simple fuse. If the estimated repair cost is 95€, it might be worth it to have a professional diagnose it properly to avoid causing more damage or spending time on a wild goose chase.

Thanks! I think you're right. I checked the fuse and it was fine. I had a quick look for the motor connection, but I didn't want to start pulling things apart without knowing exactly what I was doing. I'll take it to the workshop. They confirmed it was a faulty connection in the steering column switch and fixed it for just under 100€. Thanks again for your help!

No need to panic. A faulty wiper system on your A Klasse can be a pain, but let's troubleshoot. The steering column does house a lot of controls including the windshield wipers, cruise control and turn signals. The rain sensor is usually linked to the wiper system as well, so it's possible all these things are interconnected. When you say 'error related to the wiper circuit', do you have the exact error code? That would really help narrow things down. Also, have you checked the wiper motor fuse? It's a simple thing, but often overlooked. It's also worth checking the connection to the wiper motor itself before you assume it is the switch.
