I'll double-check the connection behind the head unit. Where exactly is the signal amplifier located in these models? Is it part of the antenna base itself, or somewhere else? Knowing that might help me narrow down if it's the amplifier, the antenna ground, or the antenna cable itself that's the culprit.

Honestly, finding the signal amplifier is a pain in the neck. From what I remember from other forums, it can be integrated into the antenna base, or sometimes tucked away near the rear window. Unless you're super confident with vehicle electronics, I'd suggest getting it checked by a workshop. It could save you a lot of frustration in the long run! I had something similar and messed it up pretty badly. It is almost certainly a defective antenna though.

I booked it in. They checked the antenna and confirmed it was defective. Repair cost 255€. It's all sorted now!

Ugh, radio problems are the worst! Happened to my old C-Class once, though it was a different issue. Have you checked the basics, like if the antenna cable is actually connected properly to the head unit? A loose connection can cause all sorts of weirdness. It could also be a defective antenna. A broken antenna impacts the FM signal.
