Thank you so much for your reply! That buzzing sound...yes, I recall noticing some sound distortion at higher volumes recently, exactly as you described! It's all becoming horribly clear now. But was it definitely the bass speaker in your case? And did you attempt any kind of repair yourself, or did you immediately seek professional help?

Yep, the buzzing was the clue! It does sound like the bass speaker is the most likely culprit. I didn't attempt anything myself; frankly, I didn't want to risk making things worse, or damaging anything else. I took it straight to a workshop. They confirmed it was the bass speaker. Honestly, unless you are super confident with car audio systems, I would recommend the same. It's probably best to get it checked out properly. It might save you a lot of grief in the long run.

Thank you again for your invaluable advice! I took your suggestion and visited a reputable workshop. They confirmed your suspicion: a defective bass speaker. The eventual repair cost amounted to 280€, which I suppose isn't too terrible. The new speaker has been installed, and now the sound quality is back to its original, glorious state. The sound system is working wonderfully again. I very much appreciate you sharing your experience; it saved me a lot of needless worry and potential DIY disasters!

That's a real bummer! I think I had something similar happen with my A Klasse. Everything just went silent, like someone hit the mute button on the whole car. Have you noticed any sound distortion before it completely died? I remember mine had a strange buzzing sound at higher volumes for a little while before the sound system packed it in completely. It was especially noticeable with bass-heavy music. I am wondering, does your volume control work at all?
