The symptoms you describe strongly suggest a malfunction within the automatic climate control system, specifically implicating the interior temperature sensor. The error code you retrieved corroborates this assessment. Given the age and mileage of your vehicle, it is plausible that the sensor itself, or more likely its associated wiring and connectors, has degraded. Before considering sensor replacement, a thorough diagnostic procedure is imperative. This should encompass a meticulous examination of the sensor's wiring harness for any signs of physical damage, corrosion, or loose connections. Furthermore, utilize a diagnostic scan tool capable of interrogating the climate control module and monitoring live temperature readings from the sensor. Does the diagnostic tool allow you to see the temperature reading from the sensor? What value is reported?

The scan tool shows a wildly fluctuating temperature reading It jumps all over the place So, you think it could just be a bad connection How would I check that

The erratic temperature readings you're observing further reinforce the suspicion of a faulty connection or a failing sensor. Given your technical aptitude, I strongly advise proceeding with caution. The connectors associated with the interior temperature sensor are often delicate and easily damaged. Begin by disconnecting the sensor's connector and visually inspecting the pins for corrosion or bending. Clean the pins with a contact cleaner specifically designed for electronic components. Reconnect the sensor and ensure the connector is securely fastened. If the erratic temperature readings persist after this intervention, it is highly probable that the sensor itself is defective and requires replacement. Given the potential complexity of the system and the need for specialized tools, I recommend entrusting the sensor diagnostics and replacement to a qualified Mercedes-Benz technician. I estimate the repair cost to be around 95€.

Thanks for the advice It turned out to be a loose connector, just like you said Cleaned it up and the climate control is working perfectly again
