Mercedes AMG GT steering issue
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Mercedes AMG GT owner reported issues with the steering wheel vibrating and handling feeling spongy, suggesting a potential power steering failure. An error code related to the power steering system was found, leading to speculation about a defective cable or plug connection. Another owner shared a similar experience, where a loose and corroded plug in the steering column was the cause, particularly worsening in cold weather. The issue was resolved by cleaning and securing the connection, restoring proper steering function.

Thanks, that's helpful to know. Was it an obvious issue, like a visibly damaged plug, or something harder to spot? And did you notice any specific conditions that made it worse, such as cold weather or after driving for a long time? I'm just trying to gather as much information as possible before I take it in.

Honestly, I didn't see it myself. The shop told me the plug was loose and corroded. Just needed cleaning and securing. It did seem worse in the cold, now that you mention it. Probably the colder temps make the bad connection even worse.

Thanks for the insight. I took it to the shop, and you were spot on. It was indeed a faulty plug connection at the steering column. They cleaned and secured it, and the power steering is working perfectly again. Total cost was 95€. Much appreciated!

I had a similar issue with my AMG GT. Same spongy feel and heavier steering, especially at lower speeds. They suspected the steering pump at first, but turned out to be a loose connection in the steering column. Worth checking that before you assume the worst.
