Mercedes B Klasse AC Issues

My 2008 Mercedes B Klasse with a gasoline engine is blowing hot air The AC just quit working, and the dash is showing a warning light I pulled the codes and got refrigerant compressor failure The mileage is 215537 km I'm guessing it's the AC compressor itself, but I've also read that a defective air conditioning control unit could be the culprit Has anyone else run into this I'm looking at almost 1000€ for auto AC repair, and I'm trying to figure out if it's a simple fix or something more major like a refrigerant leak

I feel your pain I had a similar thing happen in my Mercedes C Class My AC compressor went kaput too At first, I thought it was just low auto refrigerant, like when your fridge starts acting up But nope, the AC compressor was toast My vehicle HVAC system was blowing warm air like a dragon's breath I bet you have the same issue Did you check for any strange noises coming from the AC compressor before it totally died Mine was making a weird rattling sound

Rattling sound, huh Now that you mention it, I did hear something like that for a little while before it completely gave up How did you troubleshoot it Did you try anything before replacing the AC compressor

Honestly, I didn't do a ton of troubleshooting myself I was worried about messing something up worse, especially since it could involve messing with auto refrigerant and potentially causing a refrigerant leak Plus, with the error codes pointing to the AC compressor, I figured it was the most likely thing I took it straight to a workshop They confirmed it was the AC compressor and said the whole vehicle HVAC system needed a checkup They quoted me a similar price, so it sounds like you're in the right ballpark Get it checked out by a pro

Thanks for the info Sounds like our experiences are pretty similar I'm going to take it to the workshop as you suggested They confirmed that the air conditioning control unit was defective Replacing it solved the problem, and the AC is blowing cold again The final bill was almost exactly what I expected Thanks again for your help
