Mercedes B Klasse Diesel Boost Pressure Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Mercedes B Klasse diesel is experiencing a boost pressure issue, characterized by a check engine light, power loss, increased fuel consumption, and unusual noises like whistling and hissing. The problem could be related to the turbocharger, specifically a faulty wastegate valve, or possibly issues with hoses or the MAP sensor. After taking the car to a workshop, the issue was confirmed to be the wastegate valve, which was repaired, resolving the problem.

Thanks for the reply. Wastegate valve... I'll have a look. Where is the MAP sensor located?

On my Skoda, it was near the intake manifold. But honestly, diagnosing boost control issues can be tricky without proper tools. A faulty wastegate on the turbocharger itself is a common culprit. If you're not comfortable poking around too much, I'd suggest getting it checked by a workshop. They can properly test the turbocharger and boost control system.

Thanks again for the help. Took it to a workshop, and you were right – it was the wastegate valve. Repair cost me 860€. At least it's sorted now!

Sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my old Skoda Octavia (TDI). Reduced power, whistling noise... turned out to be a faulty wastegate valve. Have you checked the hoses going to the turbocharger, intercooler, and throttle body? Also, a dodgy MAP sensor could cause similar symptoms. It might be worth a look before you dive into replacing the whole turbocharger.
