Mercedes B Klasse Diesel Cylinder Pressure Problem

My 2007 Mercedes B Klasse diesel is running rough with cylinder pressure fluctuations Could it be the timing belt or something worse

Summary of the thread

A 2007 Mercedes B Klasse diesel was experiencing rough running and cylinder pressure fluctuations, initially suspected to be due to a timing belt issue. However, error codes related to the EGR valve and MAF sensor suggested these might be the cause. It was advised to check these sensors as they can affect engine management and cause pressure imbalances. Upon diagnosis, a faulty MAF sensor was identified and replaced, resolving the issue without further engine damage or cost, as it was under warranty.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had a similar issue with my B Klasse diesel Cylinder pressure problems can be tricky Before tearing into the engine, have you checked for any other error codes Sometimes a faulty sensor can throw things off and cause consequential errors It might not be as serious as timing belt or head gasket right away What kind of knocking are you hearing

I did see some other codes related to the EGR valve and the MAF sensor I figured those were just symptoms of the bigger problem, but maybe I'm wrong The knocking is faint, but definitely there, especially when the engine is cold Could those sensors really cause the cylinder pressure to fluctuate

Yeah, those sensors could absolutely be the culprit The EGR and MAF sensors play a big role in engine management If they're sending bad data, it can mess with the fuel/air mixture and cause all sorts of problems, including cylinder pressure imbalances Given the other codes and the knocking, I'd suggest getting it properly diagnosed at a workshop before assuming the worst Could save you a lot of time and money

You were spot on Took it to the workshop, and it turned out to be a faulty MAF sensor causing all the chaos Replaced it, cleared the codes, and the engine is running smooth again Cylinder pressure is back to normal, fuel consumption is back to where it should be, and the check engine light is gone No engine knocking anymore either Cost me absolutely nothing since it was still under warranty Thanks for the advice, you saved me a potential head gasket replacement
