Thanks for the reply. I haven't tried forcing a DPF regeneration. How would I go about doing that? Is it something I can do myself, or does it require special equipment?

Given the smoke and the reduced power, forcing a DPF regeneration might not be sufficient. I'd advise against attempting it yourself without diagnostic tools; you could potentially cause further damage. My recommendation would be to consult a qualified mechanic. They can properly diagnose the issue and determine the best course of action. In my case, it turned out to be a faulty sensor related to the diesel exhaust system, and I had it professionally addressed. It is preferable to spend a small amount on the diagnosis than to risk irreversible damage to the diesel engine.

Appreciate the advice. I took it to the workshop, and you were right. It was the exhaust back pressure sensor. Repair cost was 245€. All sorted now. Thanks again.

Good heavens, that sounds rather unpleasant! I have a Mercedes B Klasse too. I had a similar issue with the particulate filter. Reduced engine power and that awful smell are quite alarming. Have you tried forcing a DPF regeneration cycle? It might just be clogged. The emission control system can be quite sensitive.
