I hadn't thought about alignment. Is there a particular way to check the tensioner pulley alignment, or is it mainly a visual check? I want to eliminate all possibilities before replacing the whole belt tensioner assembly.

While a visual check can show obvious misalignment, accurate measurement often needs special tools. Because of the belt handover problem, getting a comprehensive diagnosis from a qualified technician is recommended. Replacing the belt tensioner assembly might be the needed fix.

Thanks for the advice. I had it professionally inspected as suggested. It was confirmed that the belt tensioner was faulty. After replacing it, the handover is now working perfectly. The price was accurate too. Thanks again.

I've encountered a similar issue on a B Klasse. Has the tensioner pulley been checked for correct operation and alignment? A misaligned or failing tensioner could stop the belt handover from working right.
