Thanks! I'll check for exhaust leaks. The error code was a general engine misfire code, not specific to any cylinder. How would I test the oxygen sensor? Can I do it myself, or should I go to a professional?

A general misfire code can be tricky. Diagnosing an oxygen sensor without the right tools can be a pain. You'd need a multimeter and knowledge of correct voltage readings. Given the exhaust smell and general misfire, I'd recommend a workshop. A small leak can cause big problems if you drive it like that for long. They can properly diagnose the oxygen sensor and rule out other possibilities, potentially saving you money compared to replacing parts randomly.

Okay, thanks for the advice! The mechanic found a small crack in the exhaust manifold. They welded it, replaced a gasket, and the total was 265€. The engine is running smoothly, and the check engine light is off. Thanks again!

I had a similar issue with my B Klasse. Check for exhaust leaks around the manifold and catalytic converter. Unmetered air can mess with the fuel mixture, triggering the check engine light and causing jerking. A faulty oxygen sensor could also cause similar symptoms, giving wrong readings to the engine control unit. What engine error codes are you getting? Is it a specific cylinder misfire, or more general?
