Mercedes B Klasse radio reception issues

Is anyone having radio issues with their Mercedes B Klasse 2016 gasoline model My radio reception is totally gone The infotainment system keeps throwing up error messages and basically the whole audio system is dead A mechanic said it's probably a defective antenna and it'll cost around 255€ to fix Could it be something else maybe related to the vehicle electronics or the antenna booster I’m worried it could also be the antenna ground The signal strength has been poor for weeks but now it's just gone completely

Summary of the thread

A 2016 Mercedes B Klasse owner experienced complete radio reception failure, with error messages from the infotainment system and a dead audio system. A mechanic suggested a defective antenna as the likely cause, estimating a repair cost of 255€. Another possibility discussed was corrosion at the antenna base or issues with the antenna booster or ground. Ultimately, replacing the antenna resolved the problem, restoring radio functionality and potentially clearing stored error messages.

Radio problems huh I had something similar with my B Klasse An error stored in the memory too Does your car have the standard antenna or one of those fancy amplified ones Check the connection to the antenna base first Sometimes they get corroded causing a poor signal Could be a ground issue too reducing signal strength but my bet is on the antenna itself Although vehicle electronics being weird isn't impossible

Corroded connection that's interesting Where exactly should I be looking for that Is it easy to get to I’m a bit worried about messing around with it myself and making things worse And you mentioned an amplified antenna – how do I tell if I have one of those Is it just bigger or something Maybe something goes wrong with the antenna booster Thanks for your help by the way every idea is helpful

Accessing the antenna base can be tricky depending on your car's setup might require removing interior trim Unless you're comfortable with that I wouldn't force anything If you are disconnect the antenna cable and inspect both the cable and the connector on the antenna base for green crusties corrosion As for the amplified antenna it usually has a small box inline with the antenna cable or built into the base itself - you'd see extra wires Honestly based on your description I'd stick with what the mechanic said and get the antenna replaced Seems like the easiest fix at this point

Thanks for the advice You were right I didn't want to risk breaking anything trying to get to the antenna I took it back to the workshop and they confirmed it was the antenna New antenna 255€ later and the radio is working perfectly again Hopefully this will also resolve the error messages that were stored in the memory Appreciate the help
