Mercedes C Klasse Diesel Belt Tensioner Issue

Has anyone experienced a belt issue on a 2023 Mercedes C Klasse diesel? It's done 132495 km and the belt-handover has stopped working. I suspect the belt tensioner, maybe the tensioner pulley is defective. The belt squeal is awful, and I'm concerned about the timing belt if it fails completely. Has anyone else dealt with this engine noise?

Belt squeal? Sounds familiar. I had a similar thing with my C Klasse. Belt tensioner maybe? Is the tensioner pulley wobbly? Could be the belt tensioner itself. Have you checked that?

Wobbly, you say? I hadn't thought of that. When yours went, did the belt-handover also stop working? I'm trying to confirm it's the tensioner before spending money.

Yes, exactly! The belt-handover stopped working too. Honestly, save yourself the trouble and get it checked by a professional. It could be other things, but it does sound like the tensioner pulley to me. That's what mine was in the end.

Thanks for the advice! I booked it in. It was the belt tensioner. A new tensioner pulley fixed it. It cost 455€ total. No more engine noise!
