The scanner just said 'camshaft sensor defective', nothing more specific I haven't checked the wiring myself, honestly, I'm not that confident poking around in the engine Where exactly should I be looking for the wiring, and what am I looking for, exactly

Okay, a generic 'camshaft sensor defective' code isn't very helpful Without knowing which sensor, you are basically troubleshooting blind As for the wiring, trace the wire coming directly from the sensor Look for any obvious damage – cracks, fraying, or loose connectors Honestly, if you're not comfortable with that, and you already have a quote, 695€ isn't outrageous for that kind of repair on a Mercedes It may be time to let the professionals handle it before it causes further problems You don't want to risk messing up your ignition timing

I took it to the shop, and you were right, it was the encoder wheel on the camshaft that was causing the problem They replaced the camshaft sensor as well, just to be safe Runs like a champ now, but my wallet is definitely lighter

Rough starting and stalling definitely point to a camshaft sensor issue, especially with the check engine light on I had similar symptoms with my old Opel Astra, though it was the crankshaft sensor in my case Did the scanner specifically mention which camshaft sensor – intake or exhaust Also, have you checked the wiring to the sensor itself Sometimes it's just a loose connection
