Mercedes C Klasse diesel oil pressure problem

My 2021 Mercedes C Klasse diesel with 190646 km is showing an oil pressure warning light and making loud mechanical noises. I suspect a faulty oil pump, but could it be a bad oil pressure sensor or a major oil leak even though I see no leaks? How can I check the oil viscosity or get an oil pressure gauge reading?

Whoa, that sounds rough! I had a similar issue with my Mercedes C Klasse, though I can't remember the exact year. The oil pressure light came on, and the engine was making some pretty scary noises. I was worried it was the engine bearings going bad, but I didn't see any oil leakage either. Did you check the oil level? Maybe it's just low? Is the oil viscosity normal?

The oil level is fine, so that's not it. I'm worried about damage if I keep driving. Was your car's behavior the same, and what did you do to fix it?

Yeah, pretty much the same thing happened to me. I didn't want to risk anything, so I just took it straight to a workshop. They ran some tests and figured out it was the oil pump. Best to get it checked out by professionals before something really bad happens. I think they can hook up an oil pressure gauge to see what's really going on.

I took your advice and had a mechanic inspect it. They confirmed a defective oil pump, just like I thought. The repair, parts and labor included, cost 755€. Now the oil pressure is normal, and the engine noises are gone.
