Sounds familiar. I have a C Klasse too, although not a 2000 model. I had a similar issue with the electronic brake a while back. Same symptoms: warning light, error message. Was the error code pointing to a specific caliper? Did you check the connections to the brake control module?

Thanks for the quick response! I haven't checked the specific caliper with the error code yet, that's a good point. I'll need to find someone with the right diagnostic tool. As for the brake control module connections, where exactly is that located? And is it an easy thing to visually inspect for corrosion or damage?

The module location can vary a bit, but usually it's somewhere near the rear axle, often in the trunk area behind a panel. You're looking for a module with a bunch of wires going into it. Definitely check for corrosion; that can cause all sorts of weird issues. But honestly, if you're getting a specific error and you're not super comfortable with electrical stuff, it might be worth biting the bullet and taking it to a workshop. Electronic brake issues can be tricky and impact vehicle safety.

Appreciate the advice! I did some more digging and you were right, I'm not comfortable enough to mess with the brake control module myself. I took it to a workshop and they confirmed it was the electric motor in the caliper, just like I suspected. Repair cost was indeed around 500€. At least now it's fixed and the vehicle safety is back to normal. Thanks again for the help!
