Mercedes C Klasse Hands Free Microphone Issue

My 2007 Mercedes C Klasse with a gasoline engine has a hands-free microphone that's stopped working. There's an error stored in the memory. The garage suggests a defective infotainment system and quoted 815€ for the repair. Does this sound plausible? Has anyone experienced similar wireless connection or sound quality issues?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old Volvo V70, though it wasn't a Mercedes. The Bluetooth module went bad, which killed the microphone. Did they specifically diagnose the infotainment system itself, or could it be a separate module responsible for the wireless connection?

That's interesting about the Bluetooth module in your Volvo. Is that typically integrated into the main infotainment unit, or is it usually a separate component? How was the sound quality before the issue? Did you notice any ambient noise issues, or was voice recognition unreliable prior to the failure?

In the Volvo, it was a separate unit. It's worth checking if your Mercedes is similar before committing to a whole new infotainment system. There were no issues with sound quality beforehand; it just suddenly stopped working. Voice recognition was fine leading up to it. If the garage is pointing to the infotainment system, get them to be specific about why they think that's the issue. It might save you some serious money. But if they are sure it's the infotainment system, I'd go to the workshop.

I appreciate the insight. I took your advice and pushed the garage for more specifics. It was a separate Bluetooth module causing the problem, just like you suspected. They replaced the module, and everything is working perfectly again. The final bill was significantly less than the original infotainment system replacement quote. Thanks for saving me a fortune!
