Mercedes Citan 2021 - Symptoms of a defective boost pressure control position sensor

Hey guys, I'm worried about my 2021 Mercedes Citan with gasoline engine, which already has 135,802 km on the clock. Something is wrong when accelerating: black smoke from the exhaust, engine light on, loss of power, engine running out of round, jerking when accelerating, loud hissing and then occasionally stuttering at idle and vibrations. Almost sounds like a defective position sensor for the boost pressure control, doesn't it? Have any of you ever had similar problems and how did it go with your mechanic? My last experience wasn't that great, so I'd be really interested in your opinion. Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Mercedes Citan is experiencing issues such as black smoke from the exhaust, engine light activation, power loss, rough idling, jerking during acceleration, and loud hissing noises. These symptoms suggest a potential problem with the boost pressure control position sensor. A similar issue in a Mercedes Vito was resolved by replacing the defective electric boost pressure actuator, which required a thorough check of the entire boost pressure control circuit. Addressing this issue promptly is advised to restore vehicle performance and prevent further complications.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey Jo, that really sounds like a faulty electric boost pressure actuator. I had similar trouble with my 2018 Mercedes Vito. Had constant loss of power, jerking and hissing when accelerating. My mechanic had to get to the bottom of it because it turned out to be a pretty serious problem. The electric boost pressure regulator was actually defective and had to be replaced. It was no walk in the park, as the mechanic had to check the entire boost pressure control circuit. It's not an easy repair, but afterwards the car ran like new again. If you're dealing with the same thing, it's definitely an issue you shouldn't ignore, buddy. All the best!

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! That's exactly what I was afraid of. Do you remember how much you paid for the repair? Has everything really gone smoothly since you had it repaired, or has your Vito recently given you any other surprises? I really don't want any more unpleasant surprises... Thanks in advance and best wishes!

Hey, no problem, man. So, to answer your question, the repair of the position sensor of the boost pressure control cost me quite a bit. It was around €1520 to fix the electric boost pressure actuator. It wasn't minor damage, but since it was all done, it's been running like a champ again, with no further surprises. So I can only advise you to check it sooner rather than later. Believe me, it's worth it. Take it easy and good luck, buddy!

Hey, great, thanks for the info! There's a lot of it, but I think I'll have to get through it for now. Better to invest now than pay more later or have even more problems, right? I'll confront my mechanic and see how he reacts. You've really helped me, thanks for that! Take it easy too and all the best, buddy!
