Mercedes Citan heavy steering and vibration issue

My 2023 Mercedes Citan diesel has developed heavy steering at 133486 km, almost like power steering failure. The steering wheel also vibrates a lot. I suspect a defective steering angle sensor, maybe from faulty coding. Could this relate to the electronic stability system? Has anyone seen similar sensor or steering column problems? I want to understand possible causes before I take action.

Summary of the thread

A 2023 Mercedes Citan developed heavy steering and vibration issues, suspected to be related to a defective steering angle sensor, possibly due to faulty coding. The problem might be linked to the electronic stability system, as indicated by the occasional warning light. A similar case was resolved by recalibrating the steering angle sensor, which corrected the coding issue. It is advised to have the vehicle checked by a professional to address the steering and vibration concerns safely.

Heavy steering and shaking? That sounds rough. Something similar happened to my Citan, though not as intense. I think the issue was with the steering sensor. I kept getting weird warnings on the dashboard, like the electronic stability system was acting up. Was yours doing that too? Did you check the steering fluid level? Maybe it's just low. But if the steering is vibrating, it sounds more serious than just low fluid.

The electronic stability system light did come on sometimes. You mentioned a steering sensor issue – could you explain the specific symptoms you observed and how it was resolved? Also, was there any increased effort required when steering?

The light came on then! Yeah, it felt like the power steering was cutting out randomly, especially when turning at lower speeds. Not as bad as you describe, but noticeable. I took it to a workshop, and they recalibrated the steering angle sensor. They said the coding was off. If you're getting vibrations, I wouldn't mess with it too much. Get it checked out by a pro. Playing around with steering sensors can be risky.

Thank you for sharing your experience. It seems the coding of the steering angle sensor was faulty, requiring recalibration. The issue is resolved. The total repair cost was 195€. Your input helped me understand the potential cause.
