Mercedes CLA 2016: Black smoke, lack of engine power and whistling noise - suspected malfunction in the boost pressure system

Hey guys, I drive a 2016 Mercedes CLA Class with a gasoline engine and already have 70426 km on the odometer. Recently my car has been making some problems; Black smoke when accelerating, the check engine light comes on, it loses engine power, the engine runs rough, it jerks when accelerating, a loud hissing sound occurs when accelerating, the car dies at idle and it vibrates when idling. I can also hear a whistling noise. I suspect there could be a malfunction in the boost pressure system. Has anyone ever had symptoms like this in their car and can tell me what the mechanic did? Unfortunately, I didn't have a good experience with my mechanic last time and would therefore like to know in advance what to expect. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi, I had similar symptoms with my 2013 Mercedes C-Class. In my case it was mechanical damage to the turbocharger. It was a serious problem, yes. The mechanic had to fix the malfunction in the boost pressure control and replace the defective turbocharger. In addition, he also had to check the entire boost pressure system to make sure there was no additional damage. Sure, it's not good news, but don't worry, after the repair my car was running like new again. Hope this helps you!

Hey, thanks for your answer! That doesn't sound too good, but at least you didn't have any more problems afterwards, right? How deep did you have to dig into your pocket for the whole repair? And did anything else come up afterwards? I'm just trying to prepare for the worst as best I can. Thanks for your help!

Hey, after a visit to the mechanic, the problem with the malfunction in the boost pressure system has been resolved. My car has been running like a champ ever since. But yes, the repair wasn't exactly cheap. The mechanical damage to the turbocharger cost me €1070. But hey, there's no better feeling than having a reliable car again. So, brace yourself, but don't hang your head! It will go wrong. Hope that calms you down a bit!
