Mercedes CLA Belt Handover Problem
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Mercedes CLA owner experienced a complete failure of the belt-handover system, suspecting a defective belt bringer/handover. Another owner shared a similar issue where a wobbling tensioner pulley caused the belt to slip off, suggesting it could be the cause. Upon inspection, the original problem was confirmed to be the belt tensioner, which was replaced, resolving the issue.

Wobbling, you say? Hmm. I haven't specifically looked for that. When you say 'similar', was your belt handover also failing? Was it an obvious wobble, or something subtle I should be looking for?

Yeah, the belt handover was definitely failing. The belt kept slipping off the tensioner pulley, and it was pretty obvious once I looked closely. I wouldn't mess with it too much myself though, I'd take it to a workshop before it gets worse.

Appreciate the insight. It did end up being the belt tensioner. Replaced the whole thing. All good now. Thanks!

Whoa, that sounds rough. I've got a CLA too, and I had something similar happen. The belt started squealing like crazy, and then I noticed the tensioner pulley looked like it was wobbling. Could that be it? Did you check the tensioner pulley itself?
