Mercedes CLA EGR Valve Issue

I'm having a problem with my 2023 Mercedes CLA with a gasoline engine. It only has 31003 km on it, but I think there's something wrong with the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve. The engine power is noticeably reduced, the check engine light is on, there's smoke when I accelerate, the engine runs rough, fuel consumption is up, and it jerks and hisses when I accelerate. I think the EGR valve is defective or jammed, maybe causing a vacuum leak. This is concerning because I have an emissions test coming up. Has anyone else had these issues with their vehicle emissions system?

I experienced something similar with my Mercedes C-Class, though not the exact same model. Check engine light, reduced power, the whole nine yards. In my case it was also related to vehicle emissions. Did you notice any specific driving conditions when the check engine light first appeared?

Thanks for the quick reply. The check engine light seems to come on after periods of prolonged idling, like when I'm waiting in traffic. Could this mean something more specific is going on, maybe making the EGR valve issue worse or pointing to something else?

That is quite similar to what I encountered. Given your symptoms and the idling situation, it does sound like the EGR valve. I suggest getting it checked properly at a workshop, especially before your emissions test.

I appreciate you confirming this, and your advice regarding the workshop. I took my vehicle in, and the diagnostic confirmed a defective EGR valve. The automotive repair, including parts and labor, amounted to 355€ Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
