Mercedes CLA Hybrid Engine Stalling Issue

My 2022 Mercedes CLA hybrid has a rough start and stalls when idling. The check engine light is on. With 177114 km, could the camshaft encoder wheel be the problem? Any ideas?

Based on your description, it sounds like a camshaft sensor problem could be the cause. I experienced a similar issue with my old BMW, although it was the crankshaft sensor that failed back then. The symptoms you described, poor starting, stalling, and the check engine light, all indicate a sensor failure affecting engine control. Has the check engine light given you any specific error codes related to engine misfire or camshaft position?

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, the check engine light gave error codes related to camshaft position and engine misfire. Could a faulty crankshaft sensor trigger the same symptoms as a bad camshaft sensor?

While a faulty crankshaft sensor can cause similar symptoms, given the error codes specifically point to the camshaft position, it's more likely the source of your troubles. Considering the cost of diagnosis versus the potential damage from continued misfires, I advise taking your CLA to a trusted workshop for confirmation and repair.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to the workshop, and you were right. It was indeed the camshaft sensor. The encoder wheel was defective. Repair cost me 695€. Appreciate your help!
