Mercedes CLK Active Hood Fault and Airbag Warning

My Mercedes CLK, year 2000, gasoline engine, keeps flashing "Active hood fault" on the on-board computer. The airbag warning lamp is also lit. Diagnostics show an error, spring actuators are triggered. I suspect a defective acceleration sensor related to the pedestrian safety system or crash detection. Has anyone encountered this?

Summary of the thread

The suspected cause is a defective acceleration sensor related to the pedestrian safety system or crash detection. A similar issue was resolved by addressing the sensor and resetting the system, confirming the acceleration sensor as the problem.

I had something similar on my CLK. Drove me nuts! Is the hood latch acting up at all? Could also be the impact sensor throwing things off. I was worried about the pedestrian safety stuff too!

Interesting. I don't see any obvious hood latch issues. Was your error message the same, specifically mentioning the active hood fault?

Yeah, it was the exact same message. I'd bet it's the same system fault. Honestly, just take it to a workshop. They'll sort out the sensor and reset everything.

Thanks, I appreciate the confirmation. It seems the acceleration sensor was indeed the culprit. All sorted now, cost me 315€ as estimated.
