Mercedes CLK diesel weak battery and flickering lights

My 2002 Mercedes CLK diesel has a weak battery on starting and flickering lights, especially at idle. The battery seems to hold a charge, but the voltage is lower than expected. Could a defective battery sensor be the issue?

I had similar issues with my CLK. Weak starts and flickering lights pointed to low voltage. Check the battery sensor, as that was the problem in my case. Do you know what the battery voltage is when the engine is running?

I don't have the exact battery voltage figures yet, but I'll measure it soon. How did you confirm the battery sensor was the problem? Was there a specific diagnostic procedure, or did you just replace it?

A voltmeter confirmed the low voltage, even with a good battery. My mechanic suspected the voltage sensor right away, as it's a common issue. He replaced it, and the problem disappeared. I'd suggest a proper diagnostic at a workshop, but a faulty battery sensor is likely.

I will get the vehicle inspected by a technician to diagnose the battery sensor and charging system. I'll share the results. The repair was 315€ for the battery sensor.
