Mercedes CLK Key Battery Issue

My 2005 Mercedes CLK with a gasoline engine is showing a 'key battery low' warning and the keyless access isn't working The error memory has logged an error code and the locking mechanisms are inconsistent Is this a depleted key battery and what are some suggestions before I replace it

Sounds familiar I had the same thing happen with my Mercedes, although mine's the C-Class Key battery low warnings popping up, then keyless entry is toast I'm pretty sure it's just the battery in the key fob But before you buy a new one, is it totally dead, like not working at all Or is it just kinda flaky

The key fob is not entirely unresponsive, but its functionality is impaired Keyless entry is non-operational, and the locking/unlocking functions are intermittent Should I proceed directly with a key battery replacement, or are there alternative diagnostic steps I should consider first

That sounds exactly like what happened to me Intermittent is the key word there I'd bet it's the battery You could try some diagnostics, but for the price of a new battery, it's worth just swapping it out If that doesn't fix it, then you can start pulling your hair out But I'm pretty confident that'll do the trick Plus, if you go to a dealer or workshop, they'll probably charge you to diagnose it, which is probably just a dead auto key battery anyway

Based on your advice, I replaced the key battery and it resolved the issue The keyless entry is now working, and the error message is gone The total cost was 37€, which is reasonable Thanks for the assistance
