Mercedes CLK Shaking Rough Idle Engine Mount Issue

My Mercedes CLK is shaking It's a 2001 model with a gasoline engine and it's idling rough The computer says there's an error with the engine mount Could a defective engine mount really cause all this I'm thinking it might be the cable or plug connection instead Anyone ever experience this Estimate at the shop is 95€ which I am trying to avoid

Rough idling and an engine mount error definitely point in that direction The motor mount is essentially a rubber mount designed to dampen vibration If it's gone bad, you'll get vibration issues I had this happen on my old Volvo Same symptoms, shaky idling It could be a dodgy connection to the mount's sensor if it's got one, some do But generally, when they store an error code and you have vibration issues, chances are the engine mount itself is cracked or collapsed

Thanks for the quick reply A rubber mount you say Hmm, that makes sense Is it difficult to check the engine mount myself And how would I check the cable or plug connection of the component or do I need special tools

Checking the engine mount isn't super hard, but be careful You'll need to visually inspect it Look for cracks or tears in the rubber Sometimes they're obvious, other times you might need to use a flashlight and a mirror to see all sides Checking the connection is easier, just unplug it (engine off) and look for corrosion or bent pins Give it a wiggle to make sure it's snug when you plug it back in If you are not sure, just go to the workshop and have them make a diagnosis

I took your advice and had the engine mount checked Turns out you were right, the rubber mount was completely shot I went ahead and had it replaced The error is gone and the vibration issues disappeared like magic 95€ well spent Thanks a bunch for your help
