Mercedes CLK Transmission Issue

My 2003 Mercedes CLK with a gasoline engine won't start and the check engine light is on The automatic transmission isn't shifting right, feels like it's slipping I scanned the error codes and something about the transmission is stored Anyone ever deal with a faulty parking position I'm being told a defective control unit is the culprit with a repair that could hit 1000€

Summary of the thread

A 2003 Mercedes CLK faced starting issues and transmission slipping, with the check engine light on. Diagnostic scans indicated a problem with the parking position, suggesting the car couldn't recognize being in park or neutral. The suspected cause was a defective transmission control unit. Replacing the control unit and performing a full transmission repair resolved the issues, restoring proper function and eliminating the check engine light.

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulties with your Mercedes-Benz CLK's automatic transmission I encountered a similar issue with my CLK, although I did not experience starting problems However, I did notice that the transmission was behaving erratically, especially when shifting between gears Did your diagnostic tool specifically mention the parking position sensor or any other related components within the transmission system

Yeah the scan tool pointed to something wonky with the parking position It's like the car doesn't know it's in park or neutral preventing it from starting Did yours throw the same code

Indeed, the diagnostic tool indicated a malfunction within the transmission control module, potentially related to the parking position sensor Given the symptoms you describe and the error code that was retrieved I would advise consulting with a qualified mechanic who specializes in Mercedes-Benz vehicles They will be able to perform a more thorough inspection and accurately diagnose the root cause of the issue, preventing further damage

It was indeed the transmission control unit as suspected Had it replaced and got a full transmission repair The car starts fine now, shifts like a dream and that awful check engine light is finally gone Cost me close to 1000€ but at least it's fixed Thanks for the advice
