Mercedes E Klasse Check Engine Light and VANOS Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Mercedes E Klasse with a gasoline engine is experiencing a check engine light and high fuel consumption. The suspected issue is with the inlet VANOS mechanics, possibly due to a faulty camshaft solenoid valve or a power supply problem. The symptoms also include low power, which could be linked to variable timing and oil sludge affecting the VANOS system. The problem was confirmed to be a faulty camshaft solenoid valve, which was repaired.

Yes, I have noticed some low power. What do you mean by oil sludge? Where exactly should I be looking?

Oil sludge can accumulate within the engine, potentially affecting the variable valve timing system and VANOS. Given the symptoms, particularly the engine misfire and low power, I would suggest you take the vehicle to a workshop for a diagnosis.

Thanks for the advice. It turned out to be a faulty camshaft solenoid valve. The repair cost me 250€.

A similar issue occurred in my E Klasse. Did you experience any engine misfire or low power alongside the check engine light and increased fuel consumption? It might also be related to variable timing. Check for oil sludge as well; it can affect the VANOS system.
