Mercedes E Klasse high fuel consumption and starting issues
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Mercedes E Klasse was experiencing high fuel consumption and starting difficulties. The owner suspected the throttle valve or accelerator pedal module as potential causes. After using an OBDII scanner, a throttle position sensor code was identified, suggesting issues with the throttle valve. Cleaning the throttle was considered, but ultimately, replacing the accelerator pedal module resolved the problem, restoring normal fuel consumption and starting performance.

I used an OBDII scanner and got a throttle position sensor code I haven't inspected the throttle body yet For startup it cranks normally but takes a few tries to catch and idles roughly Could throttle cleaning fix it or does the accelerator pedal module need replacing

The throttle position sensor code and rough idling suggest the throttle valve is the issue Throttle cleaning might offer temporary relief but a defective accelerator pedal module can cause lasting problems Replacing the module might be a better long-term solution Consult a mechanic to confirm before repairs They can test the throttle valve and the accelerator pedal module

The workshop confirmed it was the accelerator pedal module I replaced it for 205€ and the car runs like new Fuel consumption is normal and it starts immediately Thanks for the advice

A faulty throttle valve could influence fuel consumption and starting Did you check for error codes using an OBDII scanner Inspecting the throttle body for carbon buildup might help The accelerator pedal module could contribute if it sends incorrect signals to the ECU What are the startup symptoms Does it crank slowly or fire and stall
