Mercedes E Klasse Hybrid DPF Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Mercedes E Klasse Hybrid is experiencing a warning light and smoke on acceleration, with diagnostics indicating the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) isn't regenerating. A defective exhaust back pressure sensor is suspected as the cause, potentially affecting emissions and engine performance. It is advised to inspect the sensor's wiring and connections, as a slightly off reading could prevent DPF regeneration. Scheduling a mechanic appointment for further inspection and potential sensor replacement is recommended.

I haven't inspected the wiring, as my expertise is limited, but the diagnostic tool flagged the pressure sensor. Could a slightly off reading prevent DPF regeneration, or would it have to be completely nonsensical? Could another faulty component cause this sensor to report incorrectly?

A slightly off reading could definitely prevent DPF regeneration, as the system relies on accurate data. While another component could cause a false reading, the diagnostic tool specifically flagging the pressure sensor points strongly to that being the issue. Given the symptoms and the error code, it's probably best to get it checked out by a workshop.

Based on your recommendation and the diagnostic information, I will schedule an appointment with a qualified mechanic to address the exhaust back pressure sensor. I will share the outcome once the issue is resolved and the pressure sensor is replaced. Thanks for the insights.

Smoke on acceleration, a DPF that won't regenerate, and an exhaust back pressure sensor warning? The pressure sensor is a prime suspect. Have you checked the wiring and connections to the sensor? A loose connection or damaged wire can cause false readings. Is the sensor giving illogical values, or just slightly off?
