Mercedes E Klasse hybrid function restrictions message
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Mercedes E Klasse hybrid with 238,282 km is experiencing a 'function restrictions' message, smartphone connectivity issues, and briefly had an engine light on. The steering also feels heavier than usual. The problem might be related to the drivetrain, brakes, or ignition system. A suggested solution is to check and reset the Bluetooth pairing and update the Mercedes Me app. Ultimately, a workshop visit revealed an incorrect pairing with the end device, which was resolved with a reset.

Thanks I'll give that a shot. When you say a similar issue, was it exactly the same? Did you also see the 'function restrictions' message, and was there anything else not working as it should? Did the diagnostic show any error code? I want to avoid unnecessary repair if it’s just a simple glitch.

Yeah, the 'function restrictions' message was there intermittently, and the phone connectivity was the main symptom. I didn't have any engine light, heavier steering, or any issue with the drivetrain. I did get a code related to communication errors with the infotainment system. After trying the simple fixes, I caved and took it to the workshop. Turns out, the Bluetooth module needed a reset or something similar, I'm not sure. I would suggest you go to the workshop, because the described symptoms seem to be more than just simple.

Thanks for the advice! I tried deleting and re-pairing the phone, and also brought the Mercedes Me app to the current version, but no luck. So I took it to the workshop today, as you suggested, and it turned out to be an incorrect pairing with the end device like they said. They reset it and it cost me 45€. Everything seems fine now. Really appreciate the help!

I have a Mercedes E Klasse, though I am not sure of the year. I had a similar issue with my phone not connecting. Have you tried deleting the phone from the car's Bluetooth list and then re-pairing it? Sometimes the pairing gets corrupted. Also, check if your Mercedes Me app needs a current version. That app being out of date messes with connectivity quite a bit. It might not be a major issue but these things may be connected.
