Mercedes E Klasse Oil Level Sensor Issue

My 2000 Mercedes E Klasse with a gasoline engine is showing an oil level sensor error. The speedometer displays an error message, and there's a warning light. The oil pressure warning lamp also illuminates. The car has 281313 km on it. I've checked the error memory, and it confirms a faulty oil level sensor signal. Could this be a simple sensor issue?

I had a similar issue with my old Volvo. The error message was intermittent at first, but then became constant. The oil gauge was all over the place. In my case, it turned out to be a corroded connector on the sensor wiring harness. Have you inspected the cable and plug connection of the oil level sensor? A defective cable or plug connection of the component is a probable cause.

Thanks for the insight. Where exactly is the oil level sensor located on the engine? Is it easily accessible, or will I need to remove other components to get to it?

On my Volvo, the sensor was located at the bottom of the oil pan. Access was tight, but manageable without removing other parts. However, given that you're seeing oil pressure warnings alongside the sensor error, I would recommend having a workshop check the oil pump as well to be on the safe side. It would be a pity to only fix the sensor and then have to deal with the oil pump later. I ended up going to the workshop to solve my issue.

Appreciate the advice. I inspected the sensor connection, and it looked fine. I've decided to take it to a workshop. They confirmed the sensor was faulty and replaced it. The total repair cost was 95€. Everything seems to be working correctly now.
