Mercedes E Klasse SRS Light Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Mercedes E Klasse displayed an SRS light, leading to concerns about a potential safety issue. The initial suspicion was a bad connection, possibly a loose plug. After using an OBDII scanner, a general fault in the airbag system was identified. The problem was ultimately traced to a corroded connector, which was resolved, eliminating the SRS light.

OBDII scanner... right. I should have mentioned I already checked that. Code points to a general fault in the airbag system. Could a faulty airbag sensor cause this without any accident?

A 'general fault' code, unfortunately, isn't very specific, is it? Yes, a faulty airbag sensor can absolutely trigger the SRS light even without an accident. Given the age of your E Klasse, it's plausible that a sensor is failing due to age or corrosion. I would recommend a thorough inspection at a trusted workshop to pinpoint the exact source of the error.

Thanks. Turns out it was a corroded connector, like I suspected. 95€ and the SRS light is gone. I appreciate the advice.

An illuminated SRS light certainly warrants investigation, especially considering the importance of airbag deployment in car safety. While a loose connection could be the culprit, numerous factors can trigger the SRS warning. Have you attempted any diagnostics, such as reading the error code using an OBDII scanner? This would provide valuable insight into which airbag sensor or component is reporting a fault. Has the vehicle been involved in any minor collisions or jarring incidents recently?
