Thank you for your prompt response. I have not had the wheel alignment checked recently, and I cannot recall any unusual noises, but I will certainly listen more attentively. Regarding the potential for hydraulic fluid, I was under the impression that electric power steering systems did not utilize hydraulic fluid. Is it possible there is a steering rack issue?

You are correct; most electric power steering systems don't use hydraulic fluid. My apologies, I was drawing an analogy from older hydraulic systems. The fact that you're experiencing vibration and increased effort, and the error code points to an electrical connection, makes me think that focusing on the steering rack itself might be premature. However, a damaged steering rack can definitely mimic some of those symptoms. Given the diagnostic report's suggestion of a cable or plug issue, it would be sensible to have a workshop investigate those connections first. It could save you a lot of money and time. But definitely get the wheel alignment checked, as this could amplify any existing steering problem.

I wanted to provide information regarding the power steering issue with my Mercedes EQV. Following your suggestion, I took the vehicle to a workshop, where they inspected the cable and plug connections. It turned out that a connector was indeed loose and corroded. After cleaning the contacts and securing the connection, the power steering is now functioning correctly. The total repair cost was 95€. I appreciate your advice, as it helped me focus the troubleshooting efforts and avoid unnecessary repairs such as replacing the steering rack. Thank you again for your assistance.

That sounds like a frustrating issue! It's interesting that the diagnostic points to a cable or plug. It's almost like a loose wire causing the whole system to act up. Has the wheel alignment been checked recently? Bad alignment can sometimes amplify steering issues. Also, are there any unusual noises when you turn the steering wheel, like a whining sound? Even though it is an electric system, I wonder if it might have some hydraulic fluid for the power steering which could be low.
