Mercedes G Klasse Airbag Warning Light Rollover Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Mercedes G Klasse owner experienced an airbag warning light due to a rollover sensor malfunction. Potential causes discussed included wiring harness issues or corrosion, especially given the vehicle's off-road use. The recommended solution was to conduct a diagnostic scan at a qualified workshop, which confirmed a faulty rollover sensor control unit that required replacement.

Good call on the wiring harness I hadn't checked those connections yet. Do you know if there's a specific location that's prone to corrosion on these Gs? And no accidents, thankfully, just the usual off-road adventures.

While no specific location is universally prone to corrosion, given the mileage and off-road use, inspecting any connections near the chassis and undercarriage would be prudent. However, considering the stored error code and the airbag warning lamp, the advice would be to consult a qualified workshop. A diagnostic scan can pinpoint the defective component within the safety system.

Appreciate the insight on this airbag sensor debacle. Ended up biting the bullet and took it to a workshop. You were right, the diagnostic scan confirmed the rollover sensor control unit was indeed fried. 1000€ lighter now, but at least the airbag light is off and the safety system is back online. Thanks again!

With the airbag warning light illuminated, a rollover sensor malfunction definitely requires attention. Have you checked the wiring harness and connectors leading to the sensor? Sometimes corrosion or damage to the wiring can trigger false readings. Also, has the vehicle been involved in any minor incidents that may have affected the crash detection system?
