Mercedes G Klasse Charge Air Temperature Sensor Issue

My 2000 Mercedes G Klasse with a gasoline engine is acting up. The check engine light is on, power is way down, and it hisses when I accelerate. The reader shows a charge air temperature sensor error and only has 32733 km. Could it be a bad connection? Where should I start looking in the air intake?

That sounds frustrating. A faulty charge air temperature sensor can cause those symptoms. Have you checked the airflow sensor and its wiring harness for damage or corrosion? Also, inspect the sensor itself; sometimes they get gunked up.

Good call on the airflow sensor wiring! I'll give that a look. When you say 'gunked up,' are we talking about cleaning the sensor itself, or just making sure it's free of debris around the air sensor? Any specific cleaner recommended?

Yes, I mean cleaning the sensor element itself if it appears dirty. However, given the error code and your description, I'd lean towards the wiring or the sensor being faulty. It might be worth having a workshop take a look to properly diagnose it.

I took your advice and checked all the wiring again, still no dice. I brought it to a shop. It WAS a corroded connector on the charge sensor, like I suspected. They cleaned it up, replaced a short section of wiring, and cleared the code. Runs great again! Cost me 95€.
