I haven't tried forcing a DPF regeneration. How do I do that? Can I do it myself, or do I need special equipment? Also, how would I know if DPF regeneration was recently performed?

Forcing a DPF regeneration usually needs a diagnostic tool that communicates with the car's ECU. You probably can't do it yourself without one. To find out if a regeneration was recently performed, check your service records or ask whoever last serviced your car. With those symptoms and the error code, I'd get the pressure sensor checked at a workshop. It sounds like a defective pressure sensor, and you could damage the emission control system by driving it as is.

Thanks for the advice. The shop confirmed it was a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor. It cost 245€ to replace, but the reduced power and smoke are gone. I appreciate the help!

I had a similar issue with my G Klasse diesel. Reduced power and exhaust smell were the clues for me. Have you tried forcing a DPF regeneration? Sometimes that clears things up, especially with a temporary blockage. If regeneration doesn't work, it could be the pressure sensor. They're known to fail. Was DPF regeneration recently done?
